SCOPH – GIAT (Gizi Cukup Anak Sehat)

In Indonesia, 17.7% of children under the age of five are experiencing nutritional problems, 13.8% of them are suffering from malnutrition and the rest of 3.9% of them are suffering from severe malnutrition. This data was collected in 2018 by RISKESDAS or Riset Kesehatan Dasar Kementrian Kesehatan 2018. While the data is slowly declining from 2013, the targeted percentage in 2018 should be at 17%. This data shows that the knowledge and awareness of parents regarding proper nutrition in Indonesia is still low. Therefore, SCOPH CIMSA UPH held Hari Gizi Nasional – GIAT with a tagline “Gizi Cukup Anak Sehat” to raise awareness regarding the issues and also to celebrate Hari Gizi Nasional that was on the 25th of January.
Before the SCOPH CIMSA UPH’s event, SCOPH CIMSA UPH along with other SCOPH in region 3, made a video about various types of diet. Not only that, SCOPH CIMSA UPH also made an offline campaign in pre-school to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition in children.
The event was held on the 15th of February 2020 at TK Little Koala Montessori, Tangerang. The name and tagline of the event was GIAT, Gizi Cukup Anak Sehat, so every parent can remember the message of the event. The event started at 9 in the morning and was divided into two activities, one for the parents and one for the children. For the children, we conducted simple games with the theme of healthy foods such as drawing competition, singing, dancing and various other activities with the same theme.
For the parents, a lecture was done by Dr. dr. Dwi Susilowati, MSc, IBCLC, Sp.GK. She explained the importance of good nutrition, the benefits of good nutrition, and also things that could happen if a child is not given the proper nutrition. The audiences were actively listening to the lecturer and asked questions. Before the event was started, a pre-test was also conducted to test the current knowledge of each participant. After the lecture, a cooking demo was done by a college student from Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Mataram. The cooking demo was done in hopes that the parents could understand better what a healthy food for the children should be like. In the end of the event, a post-test was held so we could check how impactful the event was for all the participants.
We hope that through this event, each of the participants could better understand the importance of good nutrition and the risks of a child not given good nutrition. We also hope that this could give them ideas on healthy dishes and how to prepare them.
