Written by mcdcimsa, on May 1st, 2020
CIMSA UPH Community Development has finished its first intervention for the SNTV program: Say No To Violence at SMK Nusantara 1, Tangerang. This activity was held on Saturday, February 29, 2020. This first intervention was one of SNTV programs and there are 2 more interventions and one follow-up session planned ahead.
In this activity, CIMSA UPH collaboration with alpas.id aimed to educate SMK Nusantara 1 students about the types of violence that we often experience every day, how to prevent it, and how to react to it. Education was carried out in the form of a seminar delivered by Nathania Kusuma, S.Psi from alpas.id.
Presentation by Ms. Nathania taught us that violence is a form of action carried out intentionally and aims to cause the physical and psychological injury that can be done by anyone and to anyone. Violence can be in the form of physical, sexual, verbal, deprivation, and even neglecting actions. Ms. Nathania also explained various factors that could be the reason for someone to commit acts of violence. He emphasized more about how we can avoid being involved in such situations, such as avoiding dangerous places and being selective with your relationships. He also explained that we must also have the ability to resilience, which is the process by which we “reverse” the pressure resulting from the acts of violence, and how to build resilience. In addition, we were also taught how to respond to victims of violence.
During the question and answer session, the questions from the SMK Nusantara 1 students seemed to refer to the events they saw around them. Most questions lead to the issue of cyber-bullying which is certainly quite in accordance with the current era, where the internet seems to become our primary needs.
Furthermore, SMK Nusantara 1 students were asked to play games in groups, with a total of 4 game posts. In each post, small groups are competed to collect points, where later the group with the highest points will get a prize. Games that were played are aimed to increase their teamwork and also the excitement of this event.
After playing games, we held a sharing session with alpas.id as facilitators. This sharing session is a time to share stories with small groups about their personal experiences with violence. Maybe without us knowing, we have been victims of violence or maybe we were once the perpetrators of the violence.
With this sharing session, we can hear and understand various perspectives in seeing an issue of violence. In addition, CIMSA UPH also provided every student of SMK Nusantara 1 with a Little Diary where they can write interesting events they experienced or whatever they wanted to write in the book.
We want to thank all the teaching staff of SMK Nusantara 1 and alpas.id who helped us in the preparation and implementation of this activity. Our hope as the event committee is the enthusiasm of SMK Nusantara 1 students are maintained until the end of SNTV programs. As well as all the materials that have been taught can be accepted and implemented in their daily life.
