Pre-Departure Training, otherwise known as PDT, is a project executed by the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE) of CIMSA UPH. The first PDT was held on Wednesday, 13th November 2019. This project was created with the hopes of educating the soon-to-be outgoings in the academic year of 2020/2021. It was held at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Pelita Harapan. This project was led and supervised by the Local Exchange Officer for Outgoing (LEO Out), Clauvinna A. Lie Fisca. Clauvinna is also the leader of the ‘blue troops’, which are formed from some of the selected first and second-year members of SCOPE CIMSA UPH, who will be helping her organize and oversee the exchange process for the outgoings.
On the day of the event, a total of 22 outgoings came to participate on the training. All the outgoings are from the batch of year 2017. The event started with the registration of the participants. Then, Clauvinna leads the opening by introducing herself and the PDT project. Before the presentation starts, the participants were asked to fill out the pre-test questions previously made by CIMSA national to test their pre-existing knowledge on exchange. They were given around 10 minutes to complete all the questions.
After the pre-test is finished, the lecture starts with Clauvinna as the speaker. The topic of the first lecture is on the basics of SCOPE exchange. The participants were familiarized with the basic knowledge of the exchange program that they will be going through soon, and how the exchange is carried out by SCOPE CIMSA UPH. The second lecture highlights the important things that they need to know about the IFMSA database, and all the important documents that they need to be familiarized with for their application process and their pre-departure needs. Then, the last lecture is about administration exchange. By the time all the lectures were done, the outgoings should also know their contact person, as each of them is assigned to a blue troop member who will help them for their application and exchange process.
After each lecture, there was a question and answers section so that we were able to make sure that the participants were able to follow the lecture and if there were any doubts that they could clear it by asking questions on anything they were unsure of. The last thing that the participants needed to do was to fill out the post-test questions. The purpose of the post test is to check the effectiveness of the project, so that we are able to know whether or not the delivery of the material was successful and that the participants’ knowledge was improved. After that, the project was closed and everyone was allowed to go home.
